Author: I want a Playstation 3 for Christmas but my mom says the only reason why not is because Playstation 2 games do not play on Playstation 3 and if they do I can get one. Im really counting on you guys!
Yes and no. The 20, 60, and old 80 gb PS3 can play PS2 games (they also have 4 USB ports). The 40, new 80, 160, slim cannot play PS2 games. They only have 2 USB ports.
So if a PS3 has 4 USB ports, it can play PS2 games. If it has 2 USB ports, then it cannot play PS2 games.
When I say games, I mean game disks. In the future, there’s a possibility that Sony will include PS2 games on PSN, so you’ll be able to download PS2 games and play it on the PS3.

I don’t believe PS2 games work on PS3. But PS1 games work on PS3. Sorry for the bad news….but I’m crossing my fingers for you, PS3 is awesome.

yeah some ps2 games work on the ps3 not all but most. i do know this is a fact because i play some ps2 games on my ps3 so don’t let anybody tell you any different
